Part Two: The Real Pole (What We’re Really Climbing For)
Remember The Gods Must Be Crazy? A Coke bottle falls from the sky, and suddenly the village goes bananas. People fight, envy, scramble, and even send one of their own to throw it away. Did the bottle make them happy? Not really — just chaos, confusion, and running around. well, this is part two of the Fight for the pole. If you haven’t read Part One, click here:

Today our ’empty Coke bottles’ are bigger, shinier, and infinitely more expensive: Fame, wealth, social status, social media likes, and luxury cars — everyone wants a spot on it. People push, shove, cheat, and swipe, thinking the top will finally bring happiness.
Climbing the Pole
Fine — you got to the top of the societal pole. Or maybe you didn’t. Either way, what happens to all of us eventually? Dust. That’s right — no amount of celebrity wealth, luxury lifestyle, or social media fame changes the ending.
Sure, while you were there, it felt like you had it all. And that’s exactly what the people still climbing think: “If I just reach the top, I’ll have it all too.”
But here’s the funny truth: once you’re there, the view is different. You crave something, get it, feel the thrill… and then another shiny thing appears. The Pole keeps spinning. Getting to the top isn’t the ultimate achievement. And thank God it’s not the most important thing.
Even Churches Climb the Pole
We humans are hilarious. Even in churches, people chase the Pole — enter the Prosperity Gospel. Preachers promise wealth, influence, comfort — the full top-of-the-Pole experience. Why? Because we dream it, want our loved ones to live it, and need idols to guide us. Flashy pastors, miracle millionaires, celebrity influencers — everyone shows us how to climb.
And yet… how sad? We end up living the Pole, chasing symbols of success that are temporary and borrowed. Meanwhile, the real Pole — wisdom, purpose, and lasting fulfillment — is already available to everyone.
The Villager Lesson
Remember the villager with the Coke bottle? He had it, but was he happy? Not really. He spent more energy dodging fights, fixing problems, and figuring out how to get rid of it than actually enjoying it. The lesson is hilarious but true: chasing shiny things doesn’t automatically make life better.
The Pole That Truly Matters
Even scientists are racing to extend lifespans, studying longevity in different societies. Why? Because we instinctively know life is finite. So if we’re chasing longer life, luxury, and fame, maybe we should ask ourselves:
- What truly lasts beyond the Pole?
- What if the real “top of the Pole” isn’t about money, clout, or years on earth?
- What if it’s eternal life, wisdom, and legacy — available to all, requiring no shoving or pretending?
Unlike earthly Poles, this one doesn’t disappear overnight. Everyone can climb it, step by step, right now.
Laugh, Climb, Then Look Around
So yes, climb your earthly Pole. Enjoy the chaos, the flex, the thrill. But laugh at the villagers chasing their Coke bottles, and remember: the real summit is invisible, eternal, and already within reach. Unlike that bottle, it’s yours to keep.
